Small decisions you make in the morning can make huge impacts on your entire day.
Crazy, huh?
Even crazier is that it’s not just your physical actions, it’s your thoughts that have a profound effect. Your whole day can be impacted by your attitude and thoughts you had in the morning.
Want to know how to have a great start to your day?
You are in luck! That’s what this article is about.
Let’s do it!
Focus on the positive, not the negative.
When things are not going 100% the way we want, it’s easy for us to focus on the negative.
And as humans, we often dwell on the negative instead of the positive. And then when we dwell on the negative instead of the positive, we often blow the negative way out of proportion.
If we want to start our day out right, we need to do the opposite. We need to dwell on the positive.
Think about what’s going right and be thankful
Whatever circumstance you are in, think about what is going right not wrong.
Think about the positive things in your life, and give thanks for them.
Some people even write out, every morning, things they are thankful for. Others say it to themselves or out loud.
We have more to be thankful than we often realize
In his book, The Magic of Thinking Big, Dr. Schwartz tells a story about a man coming to him telling him his life is over. The man told him that he lost everything and that he is too old to start again.
Dr. Schwartz began asking him questions:
Do you have a supporting wife, kids, health, faith, great country you live in?
The gentleman responded positively to each of them. He was in good health, had a loving wife and kids, had a strong faith, and he was proud of living in his country.
Dr. Schwartz handed him the paper with the answers the man had given him. He then said, to paraphrase, “I thought you lost everything?”
It’s all perspective. We have lots to be thankful for – sometimes we just need to remember.
Build yourself up. Don’t tear yourself down.
Sometimes we can be our own worst enemies. We can beat ourselves up far worse than anyone else can.
We tell ourselves that we can’t do it, that we are a failure, that we are stupid, and the list could go on.
Stop it!
We need to stop tearing ourselves down and build ourselves up instead. If you want to start your days (and live your days) better, change the way you talk to yourself.
Change the negative to a positive
Everytime you start being negative, tell yourself “no” and change it to the positive. If you start saying “I am a failure” respond with “No I’m not, I’m a success. I’m successful.”
If you tell yourself that you are stupid, tell yourself that you are smart.
Make a list of positive things to say about yourself, and read them out loud every morning if you can, or rewrite them every morning.
Daily build yourself up instead of tearing yourself down, and you will start seeing a difference in your day.
Tell Yourself “It’s going to be a great day”.
Our minds are very powerful, and it follows our lead.
For example, if we tell ourselves we are going to fail – it tells us why and helps us. If we tell ourselves we can succeed – it helps show us how.
When it comes to our days, our mind helps us live up to the expectation we set.
One reason that we have bad days is that we expect to have a bad day. Since we expect it, our mind helps show us every single reason why it’s a bad day.
Instead, we should start our day telling ourselves that it is going to be a great day, and believe it!
Now, negative things will still happen in our life, but if we start off looking for the good in the day, generally, that is what we will find.
Conclusion
How we start your day can have a tremendous impact on the rest of the day.
To start well, remember to:
- Focus on the positive, not the negative.
- Build yourself up. Don’t tear yourself down.
- Tell yourself “It’s going to be a great day”.
Let me know what you think! How are you going to start your day tomorrow?
